Vrelo Šarkamen, a monument of Roman culture from the 4th century, is located on the left bank of the Vrela River, 6 km west of the village of Šarkamen near Negotin.
In this area, several structures have been discovered on both the left and right banks of the Vrela River, among which the most significant are the fortified imperial residence and the memorial complex with the imperial mausoleum and tumulus.
In the mausoleum, cremated remains of an empress were discovered alongside a set of gold jewelry and coins, testifying to the luxury and splendor of life during that era.
Based on the mentioned research, the fortification and the memorial complex are dated to the beginning of the 4th century and attributed to the tetrarch Maximinus Daia (305-313 AD), with the Mausoleum dedicated to his mother, the sister of Emperor Galerius. It has also been established that the complex at Šarkamen was erected in parallel with the palace of Emperor Galerius Felix Romuliana at Gamzigrad and the memorial-sacral complex at Magura, dedicated to the emperor and his mother Romula.

Where is it located?
Vrelo Šarkamen is located 6 km west of the village of Šarkamen near Negotin, i.e., about 20 km from Negotin. There are also markers in Šarkamen indicating the site.
How to get there?
To reach Negotin, take the A1 highway, then turn right at Paraćin onto road 36. Follow the road towards Zaječar, and after Zaječar, turn onto road 35 towards Negotin. To reach Šarkamen, take the road from Negotin to Klokočevac, then turn left towards the village of Šarkamen.
