Krajina Museum was founded in 1934, commemorating the centenary of the liberation of the Timok Krajina from the Ottomans.
The museum's collection gradually expanded, and today it houses over 15,000 artifacts. The museum comprises the central building with archaeological, ethnological, historical, and artistic exhibits, the Birth House of Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac, and the Museum of Hajduk Veljko. In addition to these sites in the city, the Museum of Krajina also oversees the Birth House of Momčilo Ranković in Rajac and the archaeological site Vrelo-Šarkamen.
The building housing the museum was constructed at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The permanent exhibition follows the historical development of the Negotin Krajina from ancient times to the 20th century, presented through artifacts from archaeological, ethnological, historical, and artistic collections.
The archaeological collection contains items from the period of 10,000 years BCE to the 14th century CE. As such, the archaeological collection can be divided into prehistoric, ancient, and medieval collections, totaling around 7,000 items.
