Knjaževac can boast not only of its natural beauty and rich cultural and historical heritage but also of a festival tradition that spans over half a century.
It all started in 1951 with the idea of a group of enthusiasts - students from the Timok region, to organize a multicultural event that would unite people through art. The idea was put into action in 1962 when the first student games were held in the courtyard of the Knjaževac Gymnasium, with over 300 students participating from the Niš and Timok regions.
In 1966, the event became of a republic-wide character and acquired its first name "Musical Games of Serbian Students," which later evolved into the "Artistic Games of Youth and Students of Serbia." Since 1972, this festival has been known as FKMS or the "Festival of Youth Culture of Serbia."
During the festival (usually in mid-July), concerts are held every evening featuring music stars from Serbia and the region, as well as poets, painters, actors, with a special part dedicated to the Timok lyre.
Where is it located and how to get there?
The concert part of the festival takes place at Gurgusovačka Kula, on a hill near the Municipal Administration of Knjaževac, while the other part of the festival is held in the hall or on the plateau of the Cultural Center in Knjaževac.
